Abstract
This title of research is “using of English debate technique to improve students’ speaking ability at twelfth grade of MAN Kp. Teungoh Langsa in academic year 2015/2016”. Speaking is one of ability that need to be mastered in learning English. The students have difficulties in speaking English. Therefore, the researcher tried to use debate technique as a technique in improving students’ speaking ability. The researcher wants to know whether debate technique can improve students’ speaking ability or not. This researcher aimed tofind out the improvement student’s speaking ability through debate technique at the XII grade MANKp. Teungoh Langsa and to describe how the learning process speaking by using debate techniqueat the XII grade MAN Kp. Teungoh Langsa. The researcher did this research to make students more easily, enjoy, motivate and focuse in learning speaking. This research uses Classroom Action research (CAR) as the method. This research involves the students of XII – IPA 1 class. The class consist of 31 students. The instrument that used in this research was test and observation. Based on the research result, learning speaking through debate technique make students can improve their speaking ability. The result of pre-test shows that only 8 students (25%) who pass the KKM score, in the cycle , the result of post test 1 shows that 15 students (48%) who pass the KKM score. In the end of cycle 2, the result of post test 2 shows that 25 students (80%) who pass the KKM score. Based on these finding it can be concluded that debate technique can improve the students’s speaking ability at MAN Kp. Teugoh Langsa.
