Abstract
This thesis is purpose of to figure out whether printed mass media “Newspaper” (Jakarta Post, “features” in July 2015 edition) with technique of reading aloud can improve students’ reading ability. The population in this research is 166 of the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 4 Langsa. And the samples are XI IPA3 that consist of 20 students, this class as control group because it have higher value in English lesson than XI IPA4 and XI IPA4 that consist of 20 students, this class as experimental group because it have lower value in English lesson than XI IPA3. The writer collected the data by using test. The form of test is reading a text. From t-test analysis, the writer found that the tscore (2,844) was higher than ttable by using 5% and 1% alpha of significance (2,02)(2,71). Since tscore > ttable, it proved that there was a significant difference between the teaching of reading using treatment (technique of reading aloud) and the teaching of reading without demonstration (treatment) for the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 4 Langsa. Thus, it is concluded that the implementation of technique of reading aloud can improve students’ reading ability by using printed mass media “newspaper” (Jakarta post, “features” in july 2015 edition) for the eleventh grade at SMA Negeri 4 Langsa.
