Abstract

This research aims to find out perspectives of English department students on career opportunities and the advantages of being an English alumni on career opportunities. The researcher used qualitative method as research design and descriptive research as kind of research. In collecting data in this research, the researcher used interview and questionnaires with alumni of English department students of Iain Langsa with a total of 60 participants to fill out the questionnaires and 8 participants for interview where the resource persons were several people who filled out the previous questionnaires. They were chosen to be participants because their status and the information provided were in accordance with the research problem. The researcher found that career opportunities for English graduates can be said to be quite good because they can open their own English courses with the skills they have and being an English alumni helps get a good TOEFL score, where the TOEFL score is one of the requirements for applying a job. Career opportunities for English education alumni do not only depend on be a teacher in public or private schools because there are so many job opportunities available. Alumni can try to open their own tutoring class, can be a translator or be an administrator staff. Job opportunities for alumni English department students are currently quite good.
