Abstract

This research aims to examine students' experiences and attitudes towards the use of Google Translate in English language learning. The research also aims to understand how it is used and the reasons why students use Google Translate in English language learning. This is a qualitative research using the phenomenology method. Data for the research was obtained through interviews and observations, Interview data serves as primary data and is supported by data obtained through observational methods Data analysis was conducted using Miles and Huberman's theory. The research subjects consisted of 10 participants of eight semester students in the English Language Education Program at IAIN Langsa. The results of the research indicated that the majority of students consider Google Translate to be very useful in translating vocabulary and is helping them complete difficult English language tasks. Features such as voice recording and spelling are seen as added value of Google Translate Aplication. The use of Google Translate is done through a browser or application by selecting the source and target languages, and typing or copying the text to be translated. However, it is important to note that the use of Google Translate should be used wisely and in the appropriate context, without replacing actual language understanding and skills.
