Abstract
Sanggam Siahaan theory describes coherence paragraph as a clear and reasonable connection between parts in sentences that are connected in smooth and logical order. Since the conceptual meaning of English sentences mainly depends on word order, therefore the arrangement of the parts of a sentence is especially important to accurate expression of ideas. The incoherent sentences, however, would always misguide readers. However, most students cannot write coherent paragraphs well. This descriptive qualitative research aims at finding out students’ difficulties, particularly at English language education IAIN Zawiyah Cot Kala Langsa, in writing coherent paragraphs. The population is all fifth semester students which consisted of 80 students in academic year of 2015-2016. 19 students were selected as sample by using simple random sampling.
