Abstract

This research was aimed at improving the vocabulary achievement of students of VIII-2 of SMP Negeri 1 Peudawa. The problem was that they poor in vocabulary mastery. This particular research was categorized as classroom action research. The actions were implemented in two cycles based on the class schedule. This research involved the 25 students of class VIII-2 of SMP Negeri 1 Peudawa and the English teacher as the research collaborator. The data of the study were in the forms of qualitative and quantitative data. The qualitative data were obtained by observing the teaching and learning process of learning, holding a discussion with the collaborator and taking figures. Meanwhile, the quantitative data were acquired through the pre-test, the post-test I, and the post test II. The research findings showed that the use of hangman games can supporting activities and classroom was proven to be effective to improve the students’ vocabulary achievement. It could get students’ attention and increased their learning motivation. It can help the students added the vocabulary knowledge. The students who just gained 61.48 or 24% in the pre-test, were able to increase their score up to 75.68 or 64% in the post test I. In the end of cycle 2, the result of post test 2 showed that students get 87.2 or 80%. Based on these finding it can be concluded that hangman games can increased the students’ vocabulary achievement at SMP Negeri 1 Peudawa.
