Abstract
The study analyzed the Authentic Material in speaking class to the fourth semester at IAIN Zawiyah Cot Kala Langsa. The objectives of this study are: to find out about the kinds of authentic material sources used in speaking class and to investigate the use authentic materials in speaking class. In this study, the writer used qualitative method administered observation and interview as the instruments of the study. The instruments carried out to describe Authentic Material used in Speaking English. This study started from 26th March to 18th April 2015 on the Fourth Semester Students of English Department in IAIN Zawiyah Cot Kala Langsa. In conducting the research, the writer took all of lecturers in speaking lectures of fourth semester as the samples by using probability sampling technique. The data that was obtained was presented in the descriptive form of text and tables. The writer closed observation and the last step interviewed all of lecturers in speaking class to the fourth semester. There are 3 tables for 3 times meeting of observation sheets to activity each lecturer in speaking class. The question of interview was eight questions were given to the two lecturers. Based on the observation and interview result, this research indicated that speaking lectures of the fourth semester at IAIN Zawiyah Cot Kala Langsa, used internet, TV, newspaper, magazines as kinds of sources information. Every meeting the lecturers ask the students to have materials that the lecturers give at last meeting, the students also learn in group. Sometimes the lecturers ask the students to showed the topic that their got from internet or the other sources information. And then the lecturers ask the students must be actively speak English together. Authentic material really helps speaking class to be active, it has a positive effect on students’ motivation, it gives authentic cultural information, it exposes students to the real language, it relates more closely to students need, it supports a more creative approach to teach. The writer suggests the lecturers always use Authentic Material. With this research, the writer hopes it will give good advantage to the reader.
