Abstract
This research aimed to investigate the perceptions of students regarding the effectiveness of the weekly class program in supporting their speaking skills at Zawiyah English Club of IAIN Langsa, signify the weekly class program particular features to other programs offered at Zawiyah English Club, such as green activities, workshops, and competitions, in terms of supporting students' speaking skills and explore the relationship between the frequency and duration of the weekly class program and students' perceived improvement in their speaking skills.The method of this research was descriptive qualitative method. The population of this study consisted of students who had participated Zawiyah English Club and those who attend Weekly Class at the zawiyah english club. In the research, researcher used interview techniques, where the researcher took 7 students as a sample (all English club members who joined the Weekly Class). Based on data analysis, it was found that 1). Students had a positive response about the Weekly Class as a Meeting Club. The class atmosphere tended to be fun and comfortable, and made them more interested in practicing speaking.Weekly Class has a positive effect on students. The students are motivated to join in Weekly Class program, students make weekly class as necessity thing in learning English especially in speaking ability and for students who did not join this program can be interesting to join in this program. 2). Weekly Class is different with others programs. Because the class program focuses more on English language skills. Classes are held twice a week, namely Wednesday and Friday. Moreover, the activities are provided for administrators and the general public. 3). There was a relationship between frequency and duration in class, because there are 6 students said that they always attended class if they only leave class once, not a decrease in speaking but more of a decrease in the level of sensitivity in speaking, because if they often attended the classes, their confidence will wake them by itself, by leaving the class, confidence in speaking will decrease and can have a bad impact on the quality of one's speaking because they often leave class. But there was a student disagree and said that how good he is at English speaking depends on how often he practices his skills.
