Abstract

The purpose of this research were to investigate the effectiveness of teaching speaking by using riddles game in improving students’ speaking at the eight grade students of SMPN 10 Manarul Islam Kejuruan Muda, to find out the students’ responses toward riddles games applied in the classroom. The research approach was a classroom action research, which consisted of two cycles. Each cycle had four steps: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The research subjects were the eighth-grade students of SMPN 10 Manarul Islam Kejuruan Muda, that consisted of 24 students. The data were gathered through observation, testing, and interviews. Teaching speaking through reddle games was particularly effective in developing students' speaking skills. In the pre-test, the mean score of students was 57, 83. In cycle I, the mean score of students was increased in to 62,8. Finally, in cycle II, the mean score of students was increased in to 70,75. The percentage of students who passed KKM was also increased. In pre-test, 20,8 % of stusents passed KKM. In cycle I, 33,3 % of students passed KKM. In cycle II, 66, 6 % of students passed KKM
