Abstract
The purposes of this study were to find out the style of student in writing supporting detail and their reason of used the style. This research applied to descriptive qualitative. This research involved the fourth semester student of English department. The sample of this reasearch were 23 student that choosen by purposive sampling. The applied research instruments were documentation and interview. The results of the study were all of writing supporting detail that contains major and minor. 23 students used major supporting detail (100%) and 19 students used minor supporting detail (73,91). The students used four style in writing supporting detail, 5 students used example (21,73), 6 students used fact (26,08%), then 7 students used reasons (30,43%), and the most widely used is description (82,6%). The students stated some reason of using description. The students think description is more easier than the other then more detail and clear. Easier to understand and the last, researcher argued that the reason arised because students do not know the other style. In conclusion the researcher suggested to the students read more about supporting detail and keep doing practice in writing supporting detail. Lecturers should also provide a clear understanding about supporting detail.
