Abstract

The aims of the research is to know whether the use of Vocabulary Selfcollection Strategy can improve students’ vocabulary acquisition at the seventh grade students of SMP N 3 Langsa. The methodology of this research used a quasi experimental research which non equivalent control group design. The population of this study is the seventh grade students of SMP N 3 Langsa that consisted of 426 students. The sampling process was administered by applying a purposive sampling technique. The researcher took 69 as the sample. The instrument used in this research is vocabulary test. The research used pre-test, treatment and post-test to collecting the data. The researcher used quantitative data of statistical calculation of T-test using paired-sample T-test at IBM SPSS 21.0 to Analyze the data. Accordingly the research found that the students’ score was getting better after treatment by using vocabulary self-collection strategy. It can be seen in the pretest and posttest score of experimental group, in which the mean score. The gained of hypothesis of test using t-test with significant level 0.05 showed that tcount (2.538) > ttable (1.996). Based on the result, it could be concluded that vocabulary self-collection strategy improved students’ vocabulary acquisition. It indicated that teaching learning process was succesful.
